Two weeks ago, Selena Gomez released the first of three singles from her upcoming movie, Another Cinderella Story. Entitled Tell Me Something I Don’t Know, the song is fun, relatively upbeat, and has decent lyrics–definitely better than some of the latest Miley Cyrus CD. So, why hasn’t Selena broken the top 100 on iTunes?
While I have seen her hovering in the middle of the pop top 100 on iTunes, I expected a starlet like Selena to been right up there with the likes of Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers. But why isn’t she?
Simple. Another Cinderella Story is being distributed by Warner Bros., not Dinsey, and Tell Me Something I Don’t Know was not released by Disney-operated Hollywood Records. I guess Disney doesn’t want to promote a song for one of their stars if it doesn’t come straight from the mouse.
But don’t fret, Disney did promote I Don’t Think About It by Emily Osment, even though the song was from The Haunting Hour: Don’t Think About It, a Universal Studios Home Entertainment made-for-TV movie for Cartoon Network. If you recall, the promotion of Emily Osment’s debut single was rather late on Disney’s part, so perhaps we will see some commercials revolving around her song.
(On an interesting note, Selena never made a YouTube vlog post regarding her single, but she did make a several minute long video with Wizards co-star David Henrie promoting the Jonas Brothers’ A Little Bit Longer. The video has since been removed. Odd. You’d think the girl dubbed the next Miley Cyrus would want to mimick her sales.)
